About
Abdoulaye Thimbo
Mayor of the city of Pikine, Senegal
Abdoulaye THIMBO is a “Pikinese” by heart and soul.
“Ablaye”, as he is familiarly called by friends and family, was born in Pikine and, like most of Pikine’s cherubs, attended Koranic school, rolled old tyres and used bicycles, played
“two camps” and romped through the backstreets of the city’s neighbourhoods. He spent his entire primary and secondary education in his city Pikine, and with his friends regularly visited the beaches of Thiaroye Sur Mer, went swimming and caught small fish at the lake, and clandestinely picked mangoes and coconuts in the fields separating the municipalities of Thiaroye sur Mer and Guinaw Rails.
After passing his A-levels, Ablaye was admitted to the National School of Posts and Telecommunications. He spent most of his professional career at the “ National Saving Bank “, which later became “ Financial Post Office “. He held the positions of Head of the Working Capital Monitoring Sector, Head of the Main Branch, Head of the International Accounts Subdivision, Head of the Auxiliary Accounting Department and Head of the Management Control Department.
Abdoulaye also holds advanced degrees in accounting, finance and audit from the Centre for Accounting Studies and Preparation in Senegal, the African Centre for Advanced Studies in Management and the West African Centre for Banking Training and Studies.
Ablaye’s political commitment and the leadership he embodies in the department of Pikine have earned him the confidence of President Macky SALL, with his successive appointments as General Administrator of the National Fund for the Promotion of Youth, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the National Agency for the Promotion of Youth Employment (ANPEJ) and currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of Blaise Diagne International Airport.
