Christopher Habeenzu

Mayor of Chongwe, Zambia

Christopher Habeenzu is the dedicated Mayor of Chongwe, Zambia, bringing a wealth of experience to the city’s leadership. He plays a pivotal role in driving economic development and urban transformation. With a background in running a family agro-based business since January 2012, Habeenzu showcases a commitment to both public service and private enterprise.

Habeenzu’s extensive career at the Zambia Revenue Authority, from May 2009 to December 2011, saw him as the Director Design and Monitoring – Domestic Taxes. In subsequent roles, including Director Field Delivery – Domestic Taxes, and Deputy Commissioner in VAT Operations and VAT Policy, he played a vital role in shaping tax policies, compliance strategies, and overseeing operational excellence.

Beyond his tax-related contributions, Habeenzu’s earlier roles in finance and auditing, including positions at Meridien BIAO Bank and Price Waterhouse, equipped him with a diverse skill set. Holding a Bachelor of Sciences Degree from the University of Zambia, acquired in 1990, and achieving stage C of the ACCA in December 1994, Habeenzu combines academic prowess with practical experience.

Habeenzu’s commitment to continuous learning is evident in his participation in various training sessions, including Senior Management Development programs in Japan and New Zealand. His multifaceted career, from tax administration to business owner.
