David Coltart
Mayor of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
David Coltart assumed office as the Mayor of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, in September 2023, following his election for a 5-year term. Born in Gweru, Zimbabwe, Coltart received his education in Bulawayo and at UCT, graduating with a law degree.
With over 40 years of legal experience, primarily in human rights and constitutional law, Coltart remains the Senior Partner of one of Zimbabwe’s oldest law firms, in addition to his ceremonial role as Mayor of Zimbabwe’s second largest city Bulawayo. He has a robust political career, being elected to Parliament three times and eventually to the Senate in 2008. Coltart played a significant role in the government of national unity from 2009 to 2013, serving as the Minister of Education, Sport, Arts, and Culture.
Known for his commitment to growth and development, Coltart focuses on revitalizing infrastructure, promoting tourism, and enhancing social services in Bulawayo. In 2016, he published “The Struggle Continues: 50 Years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe”. Married with four children and seven grandchildren, Coltart brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role as Mayor of Bulawayo.
