Mayor of Wolaita-Sodo, Ethiopia

His Excellence Dr. Firew Moges Motta, a distinguished leader and prominent figure in Ethiopian politics, currently holds the esteemed position of Mayor of Wolaita Sodo State of South Ethiopian, with a wealth of leadership experience. Firew pursued a BA in Economics at Gondar University, showcasing his commitment to finance and economic development. He continued his academic journey with a Master’s degree in Economics (Development Policy Analysis) and a PhD in Livelihood and Poverty Reduction, both from Wolaita Sodo University. This is a reflection of his dedication to honing leadership skills for the benefit of his community.

Prior to this role, he served as the Vice Head of Wolaita Sodo town Public Relations office (2008), Head of Finance and Economic Development (2011 – 2012), Vice Head of Wolaita Zone Youth and Sport department (2013 – 2014), General Director of Wolaita Development Association (2017), Head of Wolaita Zone Youth and Sport department (2018) and Head of Wolaita Zone vice Administrator and Enterprise Development department (2018). Dr. Motta’s leadership journey is marked by a commitment to finance and economic development and effective governance.

As a dynamic force within the Ethiopian Prosperity Party, he continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the socio-political landscape of the Zone and contributing to the overall prosperity of Wolaita Sodo town, which he is guiding with vision and dedication.
