Freeman Nomvalo, former CEO of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), has left an indelible mark on the organization, elevating its reputation and trust indices. Nomvalo represented SAICA on esteemed international accounting bodies, showcasing his influence and expertise on a global scale.

A passionate advocate for leadership development, Nomvalo spearheaded initiatives during his tenure as the Accountant- General, including the National Treasury’s Leadership Development Program. His collaboration with the Gordon Institute of Business Science resulted in a successful leadership development program benefiting the Treasury’s top management team. As a faculty member at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, he contributed to Adaptive Leadership programs, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and sharing knowledge.

Nomvalo’s extensive experience extends to serving on boards of various organizations, where he chaired audit and risk committees. His role on the Ntsebeza Commission investigating entities that affected the accounting profession’s reputation underscores his dedication to upholding ethical standards. As the first African and longest-serving Accountant-General of South Africa, Nomvalo played a pivotal role in resolving banking crises, addressing challenges in sports governance, and contributing to legislative developments, such as the 2005 Audit Profession Act.

His commitment to public sector governance is evident through initiatives like the Public Sector Audit Committee Forum, emphasizing citizen participation in governance structures.
