His Excellency Joseph Jama Ole Lenku is a distinguished Kenyan leader currently serving his second term as the Governor of Kajiado County. First elected on 8th August 2017, and successfully re-elected on 9th August 2022, Governor Ole Lenku has earned a reputation as a transformative leader committed to the development and progress of his people.

Before taking up the governorship, Ole Lenku served as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government from 2013 to 2014, an appointment made by then President Uhuru Kenyatta. As the first appointed Cabinet Secretary to lead the newly-created security docket under the 2010 Constitution, he made impactful reforms. His leadership saw a decisive crackdown on drug trafficking, improvements in police force infrastructure and budget, and the introduction of “Nyumba Kumi,” a community policing initiative designed to enhance security through grassroots collaboration.

In his tenure as Governor of Kajiado, Ole Lenku has continued to champion the rights and welfare of his community, earning the prestigious title of Spokesperson for all Maa-speaking communities in Kenya. His ability to fight for justice and fairness, particularly in defense of the marginalized, has cemented his status as a voice of reason and advocacy for the Maasai people.

Before joining public service, Governor Ole Lenku honed his leadership skills in the private sector, holding managerial roles in the renowned Serena group of hotels in Kenya and Tanzania, as well as teaching at Kenya Utalii College, Africa’s premier hospitality training institution.

Governor Ole Lenku holds a Diploma in Hotel Management from Kenya Utalii College, a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Nairobi, and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada.
