Mayor of Kitwe city, Zambia

Ms Mpasa Mwaya is the Mayor of Kitwe, the third-largest city in terms of infrastructure development (after Lusaka and Ndola) and second-largest city in terms of size and population (after Lusaka) in Zambia. Kitwe is one of the most developed commercial and industrial areas in the nation, alongside Ndola and Lusaka. It has a complex of mines on its north-western and western edges. Mayor Mwaya took office in 2021 and pledged to ensure that the Kitwe City Council passes sound resolutions in the best interest of the people despite the diverse political composition of the new council. The new council comprises 14 United Party for National Development councillors and 14 Patriotic Front councillors, while 4 are independent. Mayor Mwaya is the only female council member.
