Namayanja Florence
Mayor of Masaka city, Uganda
Ms Florence Namayanja has been Mayor of Masaka City, Uganda, since May 2021. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Organisational Psychology, majoring in Human Resource Planning, from the Uganda College of Commerce and Makerere University. She has also been awarded a certificate in building communities of character, from the Character Training Institute Oklahoma, USA, and has undergone several management training programmes. She has worked at Uganda’s National Water and Sewerage Corporation and was later a board member. She has served as a member of the council of the Mulago School of Nursing and of the Kyambogo University, and currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Masaka Secondary School. Ms Namayanja served as Village Chairperson, Division Councillor, City Councillor, and Deputy Mayor of the Kampala City Council before joining the Parliament of Uganda from 2011-2021.
While in Parliament she served as Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, State Authorities and State Enterprises, Vice Chairperson of the Committee of Local Government Accounts, member on the Natural Resources Committee, and as a member of the Forum on Climate Change and Food Security and the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association. During her time as Mayor she has constituted all statutory bodies. The Masaka City Service Commission, the Land Board and The Public Accounts Committee have already been approved by the relevant ministries, inducted, and made functional. Conserving nature is her passion, and she advocates for re-afforestation and restoration of wetlands.
