Roger Mbassa Ndine

City Mayor of Douala, Cameroon

Dr Roger Mbassa Ndine is the Mayor of Douala, Cameroon. After obtaining an Advanced Studies Diploma in Management of Industrial and Micro-Logistics Companies at the University of Mannheim in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1981, he obtained his Doctorate in Economics in 1984 at the same university. During this period he gained expertise in analysis and simulations of dynamics and systems, at the University of Mannheim’s Institute for Socio-Economic Systems Research. In 1988, after a stay of several months at an institute of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC, the IMF awarded him a Certificate of Expertise in Economic and Financial Programming.

He has previously been Project Manager at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon; has worked in the Services of the Prime Ministry; has been Technical Advisor then Inspector General at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development; Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development; and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Electricity Company. In these roles he participated in the development of the main planning documents that are currently being implemented in Cameroon. From 2013 to 2018 Dr Ndine was a Senator of the Republic, a member of the Production and Trade Commission, and President of the Pan-African Executive Committee of the Network of African Parliamentarians for Development Evaluation.

In 2020 he was elected Municipal Councillor of the Arrondissement Commune of Douala 5th and elected Mayor of the City of Douala in the same year. He is the author of several scientific publications, and is married and the father of several children.
