Teshome Adugna
Mayor of Shaggar City, Ethiopia
Dr. Teshome Adugna is the Mayor of Shaggar City in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia and has been serving in this seat since December 2022. Shaggar is a new proposed model of urban development centered around Addis Ababa, and is designed to include 12 sub-cities, 36 districts which include 41 rural kebeles’ administration. Dr. Adugna has been involved in various capacities within the Oromia Regional State. He was full time lecturer in Civil Service University and worked as part time lecturer at different universities in the country. He played a significant role in the establishment of the Shaggar City administration. Additionally, he has contributed to the political discourse on ethnic identity and nation-building in Ethiopia. His vision is to transform Shaggar into a model smart city – competitive, liveable, and responsive to the needs of all residents. Through the leadership of the mayor, the goal is to establish Shaggar as a compact, polycentric economic hub, fostering inclusivity, connectivity, and environmental sustainability through strategic spatial planning and targeted investments in innovative infrastructure.
Dr. Adugna holds a PhD in Development Economics from Innsbruck University (Austria). He has also received training certificates from the Korea Development Institute and the World Bank. His academic background spans numerous publications on topics like economic development, foreign direct investment, public finance, water supply, and sanitation in Ethiopia.
