His Excellency Alemayehu Asefa serves as the Mayor of Bishoftu City, widely known as The City of Seven Lakes. It is a prominent urban center in the East Economic Corridor of Ethiopia’s Oromia Region, situated approximately 47 Km from Addis Ababa. Mayor Alemayehu brings over 27 years of distinguished academic and leadership service, predominantly in education administration and urban governance. He has held the mayoral office since 2022, overseeing the city’s development. His professional journey started in 1991 as a teacher in Arsi Zone, advancing through key leadership positions including Head of Shirka Woreda Education Office, Deputy Head and subsequently Head of Shirka Woreda Administration, Head of Arsi Zone Education Office, and Deputy Head of the Oromia Education Bureau until 2021. Mayor Asefa holds a Diploma in Physics, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, a Master of Business Administration in Business Management, and is presently a doctoral candidate in Leadership. He continues to advance leadership initiatives such as Smart City infrastructure in partnership with Ethio Telecom and national projects including the Bishoftu Railway Academy and the new International Airport of Bishoftu.
