Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro has served as Mayor of Tamale since April 2025, following his unanimous endorsement by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly. A seasoned politician, educationist, and local governance expert, he brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community development and public service. He was previously an Assembly Member for the Lamashegu-South Electoral Area and later, the Presiding Member of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to grassroots governance. Hon. Takoro is the current Dean of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCE) in the Northern Region of Ghana, and the National Vice Dean of MMDCEs in Ghana. He was recently appointed as the Interim President of the World College of Mayors.Hon. Takoro champions inclusive governance, educational advancement, and sustainable urban development, working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for residents of Tamale. His leadership is guided by integrity, service, and a deep commitment to the collective progress of the metropolis. His priority is to transform Tamale into a model for sustainable urban development and human capital growth in northern Ghana.
