Evelyne Tchichellé was sworn in as the mayor of Pointe-Noire in January 2023, making history as the first woman to hold the position in the Republic of Congo’s second largest city. She holds a Baccalaureate in Literature (Series A4) and a degree in Letters from Panthéon-Sorbonne University (Paris I). She also earned a Higher Technical Diploma (BTS) in Commercial Action from Pigier Institute in Paris. She began her professional career in the country’s commerce industry as Head of Public Relations and Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce and Communication. Among other leadership roles, she has served as Departmental Director of Trade for Kouilou Director of Commercial Promotion at the Congolese Center for Foreign Trade, Director of Cooperation in the Office of the Minister of Trade and Consumer Affairs; and Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture, and Trades of Pointe-Noire. Tchichellé played an integral role as an expert for the Permanent Conference of African and Francophone Chambers of Commerce and Intermediary Organizations (CPCCAF). During her political career, she has served as Permanent Secretary in charge of Associations and Vulnerable Groups at the Political Bureau of the Congolese Labor Party (PCT). An environmental activist, she is currently the Permanent Secretary in charge of Environment and Sustainable Local Development at the PCT Political Bureau.  Mayor Tchichellé’s developmental agenda is centred on housing, urban planning, economic development, citizen participation, cooperation, governance, and communication. This work is guided by a commitment to ongoing consultations and involvement with Pointe-Noire’s residents and stakeholders.
