Dr. Nasiphi Moya was elected as Executive Mayor of Tshwane in October 2024, marking a dynamic new chapter for South Africa’s capital city. Her journey in local governance began in November 2016 as Group Head in the Office of the Chief Whip, followed by her role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Executive Mayor. In January 2023, she was sworn in as PR Councillor as a member of ActionSA and later elected Deputy Mayor in January 2024. A seasoned public policy and governance expert, Dr. Moya combines academic excellence with practical leadership experience. Her political career was ignited during her student years at the University of Cape Town, where she earned a Bachelor of Social Science in Politics and Public Policy, followed by an Honour’s and Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration. She completed her PhD in Political Science at the University of the Western Cape in 2021. A seasoned public policy and governance expert, Dr. Moya combines academic excellence with practical leadership experience. With a strong foundation in public administration, policy development, and democratic governance, Dr. Moya is committed to driving transformation and delivering effective services. Under her leadership, Tshwane successfully co-convened the African Mayors’ Summit and U20 Mayoral Summit as part of South Africa’s G20 presidency in 2025.
