Governor of Machakos County, Kenya
Wavinya Ndeti was elected as Governor of Machakos in August 2022, making her the county’s second governor. Her leadership agenda is centred on Food Security, Socio-Economic Empowerment and Infrastructure Development. She chairs the Trade, Industry, Manufacturing and Enterprise Development committee at the Kenya Council of Governors, and leads the South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc. Previously, she served as Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, State Department of Public Works, Shipping and Maritime, where she oversaw mega infrastructural development projects including the Nairobi Expressway and Lamu Port. Her distinguished career also includes roles as Member of Parliament for Kathiani Constituency, Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports (2008 - 2013), and Chairperson of the Kenya Water Institute Governing Council. As Assistant Minister, she led the Kenya Paralympics team to Beijing and the United Kingdom respectively. She is the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of her outstanding performance in aspects such as public participation, budget transparency and prudence in utilization of public resources. Governor Ndeti is a graduate member of the British Computing Society. She holds a Graduate Diploma in Computer Science and a BSc Computer Studies from South Bank University. She also holds a Masters in Business Systems Analysis and Design from City University of London.
